The standard c stand / grip stand is 40" with a double riser.They are also available in 20" or 60", but 99% of what we sell is the 40" C Stand / Grip Stand. Also, C Stands come with a choice of a fixed base or a removable base. The removable base grip stand costs a little bit more, but is well worth the extra expense. The removable base grip stand has (2) advantages: 1)easier to transport and 2)the base can be used as a low light stand.
Please note when ordering a C Stand / grip stand is available as just the grip stand or as a complete grip stand which includes the stand, 2.5" Grip Head and 40" (length) Grip Arm. You might also want to consider ordering a sand bag with your stand.

A C-stand is also known as a Grip Stand or Century Stand. They are made of steel and most often chrome plated, but some are available in a black finish. The nice thing about a grip stand is they have a compact base with a small footprint and each leg is staggered at a different height. What this allows is for multiple grip stands to be positioned extremely close to each other. They are very useful for holding flags, nets, diffusion frames, bounce cards, microphones and more...
Why are they made of steel? Most often c stands are used to hold items that are offset from the stand so that the weight is not directly over the stand. For example you might be booming in a microphone or arming in a flag or even a light fixture. If the c stand / grip stand was aluminum the stand riser would more easily bend and thus damage the stand.
